Overview

Welcome to the MAD Survey Website

The MUSE Atlas of Disks (MAD) is a GTO program with the MUSE spectrograph on theĀ ESO Very Large Telescope that is dedicated to the study of nearby spiral galaxies.

MAD Summary

The MUSE Atlas of Disks (MAD) is acquiring VLT/MUSE 2-D integral-field spectra for about 50 z=0 Main Sequence disk galaxies to study their stellar and gas properties at the unprecedented spatial resolution of 100 parsecs or less. MAD will establish the dynamical state of inner disks and bulges and their star-formation histories, quantify the importance of gas in/outflows and shocks, identify kinematic and chemical/population signatures of accretion events and reveal connections between baryonic and dark matter halo properties. This will substantially advance our understanding of how disk galaxies grow in size and mass with cosmic time.
